Over the years, Lyme Regis
has gained the reputation of being an artists inspiration.
Visitors will come across many potential artists sat in front of their
easels, especially around the cobb harbour and on the undercliff.
James Whistler, the famous American artist also had connections with the
town. He visited Lyme Regis in the summer of 1985 at the age of 61 years
and painted two of his finest portraits, 'The Master-Smith of Lyme
Regis' and 'The Little Rose of Lyme Regis'.
There are many examples of local artist's work in the art galleries
around the resort as well as art galleries that specialise in old
masters works. |
