Things to do in Lyme Regis with kids

Mini Golf and Table Tennis with a fantastic view!

Situated within Lister Gardens where, on a clear day, you will be able to see all along the coast out to Portland. A stone’s throw from the beach and barely five minutes walk from the centre of town you will find this 18 hole mini-golf course for players of all ages as well as table tennis facilities.

The all-new Anning Road Playground

In 2015, a fantastic ‘state-of-the-art’ new playground was opened at Anning Road Playing Fields. It has something for all children 0 -14, including a section for infants and toddlers, a pirate ship and a zipline and more.

Just a short walk from the town centre. There is limited free parking nearby as well as a public car park a short walk away on Charmouth Road.

Lyme Regis Museum

Built on the site of Mary Anning’s home, Lyme Regis Museum has some fantastic exhibitions about Lyme’s maritime history, geology, fossils and famous writers connected with the town and lots of other fascinating local history. Here you can also sign up for and go for fossil walks with the experts and, hopefully, find your own fossils! Come along on Family Fun Days and polish a fossil or create some jurassic art. You can even dress up in vintage costume and have your photo taken with Kevin the Ichtyosaur!

Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium

Come and look at some of the marine life of the Jurassic Coast – fish, starfish, crabs and lobsters. Not only that, but you can feed and hold some of the residents of the aquarium!

Fossil Hunting

Lyme Regis is famous for its fossils. There are fossil walks you can join, organised by Lyme Regis Museum, or simply go on your own. A great adventure for all the family.

The fossil walks vary according to tide times.

Beaches

Spend the day relaxing on the sandy beach and swimming or snorkeling in the sea. There are takeaways, cafes, restaurants and pubs and an amusement arcade just a few steps away.

Walking along east and west there are three further beaches, Monmouth beach to the west and Church Cliff and East Cliff beaches, which are stony beaches.

Beautiful walks

For those who like walking, there are plenty of nice walks in Lyme Regis. Either strolling through town, along the marine parade and along The Cobb or going a little further and out of the town centre where there is a network of footpaths.

Lister Gardens

Stroll through or sit down and relax and enjoy the award-winning gardens and the fantastic view. From here you can get to the mini-golf and down to the beach, restaurants, cafes and pubs.

Events

There are various popular events in the town during the year. For example: The Easter Bonnet Parade, The Fossil Festival, Lifeboat Week and Carnival Week. Dates vary from year to year.
