Jane Austen Festival in Bath

Lyme Regis tour guide Natalie Manifold has been awarded the contract to operate a day trip to Lyme Regis from the Jane Austen Festival in Bath.

Natalie, 29, of Literary Lyme Walking tours will be operating a day trip from the world famous Jane Austen Festival in Bath on 14th September to Lyme Regis.

Natalie: This is a privilege. I have worked with many of the world’s biggest Jane Austen organisations guiding tours all over the UK and Lyme, but never the Jane Austen Festival, so I am really looking forward to it. The Jane Austen Festival is a hugely popular event that attracts visitors from all over the world and competition to get into the programme is extremely tough, so being given a place in the programme is great for both me & Lyme, with many local businesses are benefiting! It’s taken years of building a good reputation among the Jane Austen community, known as Janeites, to even be considered for entry into the programme, so to be awarded a place in the programme is fantastic.

I have just finished putting together my final itinerary for the day and have found out there are only 3 tickets left, so it has been a very sought after event. The day’s events will include a Jane Austen Tour of Lyme, which includes fun facts about the Cobb Harbour, Jane Austen’s characters & where she stayed. These tours are rated 5* on travel site Tripadvisor, so this promises to be a fun event!

Diana Shervington, Jane Austen’s relation, a well known figure in the Jane Austen Society and in Lyme will be giving a talk at the Cobb Centre (a superb venue) while the group enjoys a cream tea. Finally, we will promenade along the seafront, all in Regency attire, so this is a great opportunity for local photographers too.

I would also like to invite any local person who is a fan of the Regency Period or Jane Austen and has their own Regency clothing to come and join in. No need to book – just show up for the Grand Regency Promenade in period clothing. Meet by the lifeboat station shop at 14:20 on Sunday 14th September 2014. Entry to the Promenade is FREE.
